Most of you have heard of Vincent Van Gogh, the tortured artist memorialized by Don McLean in song and perhaps his greatest work of art is Starry Starry Night. Not known for much beyond his work or cutting off his ear, he had an insightful quote,

“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.”

I suppose much like a painting is a million small efforts and details, so is building an effective team or an entire career or yes, even a close and successful family or a single precious relationship. I’m thinking it is easier to fix a mistake in a piece of art, unless sculpture perhaps, than it is to repair an error with an employee or with a family member or anyone with which you have responsibility or feelings.

You build success and friendships and relationships and teams and careers and faith from the accumulation of a many small things which comprise the whole. Mistakes, errors in judgement, selfishness, bad decisions, stubbornness are all included. We learn from them too as we work on the tapestry of our life…so see that you do…learn from them.

Then you can focus on what is good and right and positive and uplifting and true and honest. Weave the fabric of your life with a heavy threadcount (Do you see the old Executive Housekeeper coming out here?) of these virtues and surely you will live a pleasing life for yourself, for your God and those that depend on you.

My hope today is that you bring some good and honest small details into your life while you Make it a GREAT DAY!!!
