I know we have not spoken of business lately and how to be good and strong in hotels and within our companies but as Jacob Marley said in, A Christmas Carol, “mankind was my business.” We’ll get back to motivation and setting examples and hard work and perseverance and respect and courtesy and bringing up the next generation and finding our geniuses but for now, let’s say Mankind IS my business.
Thomas Fuller, a historian and churchman from Great Britain in the mid 1600s said the following,
“Health is not valued till sickness comes.”
It takes a guy from the 1600s to nail what is happening today? He spoke as a man of God and of letters having achieved so many credentials as a young man, he could speak to the nature of man from two perspectives. So he is saying we are taking health for granted. You can see that now in the social behavior of those who think they will not get sick and think that you are weak if you do.
As so many of you, I have been touched by this disease, no fatalities thank God, but this insidious beast is reaching everywhere and we have to take care of each other. Then, when this passes, try to think of what you learned about your health. Did you make any lifestyle changes? Are you eating healthier. Exercising more often? How about your mental health? Did you read a little more or Netflix a little more? Go to bed earlier. Rise earlier? Scripture more?
Many of our friends and family have lost their health or have been severely compromised, let’s purpose to be grateful for it when we have it. Good Health, that is. Enjoy it. Nurture it. Care for it. Know what a blessing it is.
OK, let’s get back to what makes us healthy. Wash your hands. Practice physical social distancing, eat right, get your rest, hydrate and pray.
