“All the world is a stage and each and every person is a player.” Shakespeare
Or as Elvis said, in Are you Lonesome tonight?, “All the world’s a stage and each must play a part.” Appropriate to quote Elvis today, on his birthday. Happy Birthday King of Rock n’Roll !!!
No doubt E was channeling Old Bill Shakespeare here, both are true. Do you know the part you play? Chances are you have several parts. Wife, Mother, Dad, Grandpa, parent, child, aunt or uncle, friend, confidant, Scoutmaster, Grand Poohbah, you get it. Even as a manager there are several roles you are required to play. You are a manager, you have a a manager, you have peers, owners, guests or customers. The point is many people have different expectations for their relationship with you. It is essential that you know your part and your lines. And you must play them convincingly.
Far be it from me to tell you how to do it. It’s your part. I am just pointing out, as I do often, that you need to prepare, even rehearse your role. Sometimes, you get a better part if you play the one you have to the best of your ability. Extend yourself past the footlights. Be aware of what is required and play it from the heart. Your team should look forward to your performance. You want them in their seats early. They may not ask for your autograph but hopefully they won’t throw tomatoes either. Enjoy the part you play because it is apparent when you don’t.
So as you go on stage today, Make it a GREAT DAY!!!
