“I will prepare and some day my chance will come.”
Do you know who said that? It was Abraham Lincoln. Surprised? His “some day” turned out to be The Civil War and I doubt he that in mind when he talked about preparation. Although I am sure that once it was upon them, they prepared incessantly for the next campaign and each battle. His chance came alright and it would appear that he was prepared however this is not supposed to be a critique of Lincoln but we want to look at the truth of his words and how do they apply to you.
We have spoken before about, “the future belongs to those who prepare for it” or “preparation is the key” and myriad other similar quotes. It is ALL about preparation. Whether business, athletics, health, education, you name it. You prepare today because who knows what the future will hold.
Listen, you have to pick your priorities. You can’t worry about not being able to speak Japanese unless you just got hired to be an interpreter at the State Department. But you might want to prepare for a state safety inspection or health department inspection even though one is not scheduled or personnel evaluations or the next chance encounter with your boss or a random subordinate. You might want to charge your phone battery and have emergency supplies before you take a road trip through the mountains or anywhere for that matter.
If Lincoln thought preparation was crucial, you might want to give it some thought. Because your chance will come (ten extra push-ups a day couldn’t hurt either). So do great today, prepare for tomorrow and Prepare to Make it a GREAT DAY!!!
