Sounds Italian to the uninitiated. But Santa Lucia or St. Lucia was Swedish. Yes she was. And the song, we all know it (listen to Bocelli sing it), is really sung in Swedish. Celebrated on December 13th, St Lucy was an early Christian martyr who, legend has it, awoke early and brought coffee and “lussekatter” (saffron bread) to the miners thereby serving their needs and bringing hope and light by sharing Christ. Celebrated as the beginning of the Christmas season, children dress in white and the girls would wear a wreath of candles on their heads.
I tell you this so perhaps, bring you some hope and light because of my family’s tradition but also to remind you that you can be a servant to your team, your staff and your family. This is what we are called to do. Raise up your people and work to serve them first. It will all come back to you.
God Jul.
