Most of us are in or associated with the hospitality industry so the speaker of this quote needs no introduction, J. Willard Marriott, he said,

“Do it and do it now. Err on the side of taking action.”

Looking at the empire he built, are you going to take exception with this? You may think that it seems that Marriott Corporation has wandered a bit from their roots, We all know that Marriott has, The Book, and you are empowered to do what’s in the book. and that is all. Independent thinking is not celebrated because you would be tampering with the Marriott product. I get it but it is one reason why I have never worked for Marriott.

However, J.W. was talking about having the gumption to take action. It may be prescribed action but it is action you must take. I would bet he said this before Nike.

Are you a “take action” and “do it now” type of manager? Or do you analyze until you paralyze? Chance favors the prepared mind so there is no substitute for education, preparation and harder work than anybody else but the time comes to take action (and responsibility) and just Do IT!

Educate. Prepare. Do.
