“No one has come up with a substitute for hard work.” Ted Williams
Does everybody know Ted Williams. Arguably the greatest baseball player ever. OK, Babe Ruth but then the arguments begin. Played for the Boston Red Sox his whole career. He famously said that the hardest thing to do in sport (correctly and consistently) is to hit a round ball with a round bat. His career was voluntarily shortened because he chose to serve as a Marine Combat fighter pilot in World War II and the Korean Conflict. Five years he served. Five prime years. Still, he hit 521 home runs and a .344 batting average (tied for 7th all time) and other eye-popping stats.
If you think baseball comes easy, it doesn’t. And if you think being a fighter pilot is not that hard, Pulllllease! The point is this, hard work. There is no substitute. Baseball, Marines, your job, your family. What would substitute it with anyway? You are where you are for several reasons, hard work is one of them. So since you already know this, make sure you pass it on. You have a team. Set the example, make it plainly obvious and do it again.
I’m awfully proud of you guys, now let’s get back to making it a GREAT DAY!!!
