Arthur Schopenhauer was a German atheist of the 19th century known as the philosopher of pessimism. He influenced minds like Nietzsche, Freud and Einstein. We studied him and his counterparts in high school but I have some rereading to do. But since we are big on optimism at 240 and spoke at length about that yesterday, here comes a bit of realism from a pessimist.
“Fates gives us the hand and we play the cards.”
Yesterday I told you that my Dad said, you have to play the cards you’re dealt. He was the most optimistic guy I ever knew. (Take a minute and read yesterday’s entry. ) Then I find out that my Dad had something in common with Schopenhauer!
Here’s the point. There are days and situations where circumstances are out of your control. You assess the situation, consider your assets, play the cards your dealt and be foolish enough to believe that you will succeed, or at least survive to fight another day.
Even a pessimist like Schopenhauer could be a realist occasionally. So I am an Optimist that leans toward realism. Think of the pessimists around you. Do you want that? Be positive. Be real. Play the hand you’re dealt and go out there and Make it a GREAT DAY!!!
