This week we are looking at the motivational expertise of some great football coaches. These men know not just about winning, but how to win. They also know how to fail and recover. I urge you to read 240 this entire week. Chuck Noll, former coach of the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers and winning coach of four Super Bowls said,

“If you want to win, do the ordinary things better than anyone else does them, day in and day out.”

In other words, do what you are supposed to do. The “Hail Mary” touchdown passes or fumbles or quarterback sacks will take care of themselves. Fundamentals are what is essential.

In the hotel business I have always said, and some of you know this and have heard it first hand, all you have to do is your job, exceedingly well, every day, with a smile on your face to be successful. In other words, the fundamentals. If you do this, you create a consistent product, in terms of service standards and efficiencies. Your guests will be happy and they will return. Return guests bring profits with them and, they are your best form of advertising.

It’s not that hard. Do your best and insist that your team does as well. Extraordinary happens when you do the fundamentals.

Talk to your people, hug your kids, be on time, speak courteously, set an example of hard work and exemplary behavior. DO the fundamentals and you will win. Simple. So what now. Go out there a Make it a GREAT DAY!!!
