This one is very simple, so true and so difficult. Spoken by renowned American businessman, Max de Pree, he said,

“We cannot become what we need to be by remaining what we are.”

If you are not where you want to be, then what will you do? What must you do? You cannot stay what you are. Notice neither de Pree or I are saying, who you are. A recurring theme at 240 is You being You. You must be the best You that you can be. Almost sounds sophomoric but it’s true. What we are talking about is what you are.

You must be so good at your job that you are absolutely needed at your next job. Whatever that takes, professionally. Learn a language, take advanced Excel, read about carpet and floor care. Whatever is pertinent to your current position. Change what you are if you are not where you want to be, yet. Keep that word in mind. Yet. We are on a journey and when we reach a milepost, a goal, we push on to the next one. Yes? You can’t sit back and wait for it to happen. We cannot remain what we are. We/you have to get better.

A better Boss, a better spouse, a better parent, yes these are choices and commitments you have made. Get better at them. Be the best and all what that means today. Then, do it again tomorrow. Now get back to it and make it a great day.
