Madame Germaine de Stael was an anti-Napoleon, romanticist philosopher and women of letters in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, she said,

“Sew good services, sweet remembrances will grow from them.”

All these humanist thinkers have a penchant for writing and speaking like scripture, don’t they? Interesting that they attribute their intelligence to themselves. Let’s see, what phrases come to mind…As ye sew, so shall ye reap or Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Nonetheless, I agree with every word. But wait, this doesn’t sound like the brusque, realistic world of business or hotels. Many of you reading this know that in order to build a team, you need to sew carefully and you need to nurture and tend to what you have planted. For your success as well as the plant, uh, person.

Beyond teaching them the skills to excel, you may generate some loyalty and that begets dedication to you and your business. Now, to be sure, it does not always grow “sweet remembrances” but it may. Don’t you want to be thought of fondly when you go? It is a side benefit for doing the work, teaching and training and exhorting your team and those that listen and believe. It is not the goal, but it is far more pleasant to sew good services. Don’t do it to gain advantage. Do it honest and true and in good faith. Those who believe will know.

I hope you will do good things as you are about the tough business you have chosen. Sew them at work and at home. And may you be fortunate enough to have many sweet remembrances from the people you love the most. Now go Make it a GREAT DAY!!!
