Renowned philosopher, network morning talk show host and deep thinker, Joan Lunden once opined,

“A positive attitude is something everyone can work on, and everyone can learn to employ.”

Some people are born optimists and some people need to learn how to find and then develop a positive attitude. You realize that you don’t have to always believe everything will be alright or wear rose colored glasses and not see reality. But reality happens and it becomes how you deal with it that matters.

If your child skins their knee, you have the knowledge to know it will stop bleeding and heal so you can teach confidence and a positive attitude to your child. It is more difficult to handle the unknown or to teach an employee how to be positive. Yes? Most of my readers, and you know who you are, were born optimists. Matt, Brenda, Joe, Chelsea, Tricia and so many others. Bad stuff happens but you knew that whatever comes your way in life and business, you would see the bright side and emerge the winner, or at least the last man standing.

I am so proud of you guys, there is little I can teach you on this topic. As a matter of fact, you have given me strength when I had doubts, and if I never told you that, you did! Thank you, I love each and every one of you.

The alternative of constantly being negative or “realistic” as some would have you believe, is just not right. Negativity breeds negativity. Optimism is contagious too but it takes a much longer time to establish credibility and to rub off on others. If you stay at it, if you display confidence and knowledge in a world of doubt and doubters, your credibility grows, people listen and soon they start to recognize that you are positive all the time. You live it. Do this for you, for your family and for your team. Teach them and model it for them. This one thing will make a bigger improvement in their life than even a promotion and a raise. If they believe you live an honorable life and believe what you say and can see it in your actions, they will attribute it first to your talents and smarts and over-whelming good looks but then that shining positive attitude will shine through.
