“When I build a team, I leave a piece of my heart.” Do you know who said that? I don’t quote him often because he is usually not that memorable. Yep, he’s me. And it’s true.
Is this not true for you? I know most of you that will read this, and don’t we work in the same way? A little bit of our heart is left behind when we build a team. Some teams require more of your heart for different reasons. I can think of my time in the early 80’s at The Ritz-Carlton Chicago, the Front Office at the Stouffer Hamilton in the late 80’s, Housekeeping at The Wyndham Itasca in the early 90s, The Abbey in the mid teens of the 21st century and, of course, Oakwood Chicago in the early 2000’s. My God in heaven I loved these people,
These were special people and special groups and you usually know when you’re in them but these groups only cover 27 of my 40 years in the business but the other 33% of my career took pieces of me and my heart along the way too. They might not have been the special group but there were special people along the way and you have to put your heart and soul in your effort just as much, wouldn’t you agree?
Besides that, it might be you that is special to someone. You, may have changed their life, their career, their outlook. You may have been the difference and their life will never be the same because of you. Those people are out there and you may never know because some won’t tell you. Some…most won’t recognize or forget but pray that you have that kind of influence on people because those who do tell you can make all the difference.
Leave a piece of your heart as you go out and Make it a GREAT TODAY!!!
