Noted author and convicted violent felon George Jackson got one thing right although his intended context was not business. He said,
“Patience has its’ limits. Take it too far and it’s cowardice.”
Those of you that have worked with me know that I have a boundless capacity for patience in the performance of individuals. Teams, not so much but for someone who is giving an honest effort on the job, they have my support. I will teach them, challenge them, cajole and exhort. However, there comes a time when deficiencies must be addressed. For the good of that employee, for the team and for the business.
These are seldom pleasant encounters but they do not have to be so negative and confrontational if you handle them on a timely basis when errors are generally of a smaller nature. Do not them them fester because of your patience. Don’t let patience turn to cowardice because you have an unpleasant conversation in the offing. If you have that situation looming, address it now. Today. It is better for you both.
Now, take a breath and get out there and Make today a GREAT DAY!!!
